The Springfield Walk to Remember takes place in October, which is National Pregnancy
and Infant Loss Awareness month, and commemorates the lives of babies lost due to
miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant death. This year’s walk will be held Saturday,
October 2, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Washington Park picnic shelter, marking the 10th
anniversary of the Springfield Walk. Proceeds from the Walk benefit Share Pregnancy
and Infant Loss, Inc. (started in Springfield, Illinois) and the Springfield Angel of Hope,
NFP. Parents, families, and friends are invited to walk in remembrance of their child or
children. The walk is preceded by a memorial ceremony designed not only to remember
our babies (each child’s name is read) but also to celebrate each life, no matter how long
or short. By gathering together to walk in our babies’ names, we keep their memories
alive and offer support to one another. Whether marking a recent loss, or one that
occurred several years ago, we encourage parents and loved ones to come walk for the
steps our babies will never take.
